Fly a Drone Using Code!
In collaboration with Apple Orchard, Roboto Coding Academy presented “Kids Hour: Fly a Drone Using Code” at the Forum at Apple Orchard on 8 and 16 December 2018. Over 40 children ages 6 through 12 attended this free workshop during Computer Science Education Week.
Introducing Drone-Flying and Coding
Children were introduced to Parrot mini-drones and the theory of drones—anatomy, physics of drone-flying, and the various parts that determine different movements. Each child was provided with an iPad running Swift Playgrounds to code their drones.
Ready, Set, Code!
Guided by Roboto's facilitators, children started with simple coding exercises before diving into sprints of drone-flying moves—take-offs, landings, and manoeuvres. The excitement was palpable as young coders tested their codes and watched drones respond in real time.
A Memorable Experience
The workshop was a wonderful introduction to the connection between coding and real-world applications, showing kids that coding can literally make things fly!
